On Saturday 3rd December 2016 Beeston Shenton Directors Sam Jackson and Paul Shenton, stepped back from their legal day jobs in order give something back for Christmas. Volunteering for Stoke on Trent Foodbank at a the Tesco Extra Superstore in Longton, Sam and Paul donned green aprons, and helped to distribute food and handed out shopping lists to shoppers.
The Stoke on Trent Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trusts UK network of foodbanks. Working together with local communities, the Trussell Trust seek to help stop hunger in the UK, through a 400 strong network of foodbanks that provide a minimum of days emergency food and support to people experiencing a crisis in the UK.
Did you know? There are 15 Foodbanks in Stoke on Trent collecting and distributing food for more than 1000 families.
Food for food parcels was collected from customers after they finished their shop, with items received including essentials like powdered milk, tinned vegetables and soup, breakfast cereal and pasta.
With two participating local Tesco scores taking part, the group of volunteers included Caine Black and Sam’s son Ben Jackson who is pictured above, with Paralympic medalist Ian Marsden. Between them, over 5 tonnes of food was collected at the two participating stores in Longton and Hanley.
