Following your initial consultation with one of our experts, you will be provided with a detailed cost estimate.
Most work is undertaken on a time-spent basis in accordance with the fee earner’s charge rate. Charge rates will be confirmed in the cost estimate to you.
In some circumstances we can offer fixed fees for certain work to allow you to budget:
Divorce
Applicant (undefended) – £500 plus vat *Court issue fee £612 in addition.
Respondent Divorce – £300 plus vat (uncontested)
Consultation with letter – £350 plus vat
Second interview appointments – £300 plus vat
- Separation Agreements – between £1,500 and £2,500 plus vat dependent on the complexity of assets and deed.
- Pre-Nuptial agreements – £3,000 plus vat for preparing the agreement.
- Living Together Agreements – between £1,500 and £2,500 plus vat dependent on the complexity of agreement and assets involved.
- Financial Proceedings – work is undertaken on a time-spent basis and a cost estimate will be provided. In some circumstances we can offer fixed fees for attendance at hearings, including £750 plus vat for remote hearings.
- Children Act & Injunction Proceedings – work is undertaken on a time-spent basis and a cost estimate will be provided.
- Change of Name Deed – £175 plus vat.
Disbursements
Information will be provided to you upon any foreseeable disbursements that you may incur. Some likely disbursements which are sometimes shared equally with the other party are:-
- Barrister fees – dependent upon experience and type of hearing.
- Pension report – from £1,500
- Home Valuation report for financial proceedings in divorce – from £400
- Business valuation – from £5,000
- Foreign Property valuation – from £600
- CGT report – from £400
- Mortgage Capacity reports – from £250

Grant of probate
Grant only with no IHT to pay – £950.00

Obtaining the Grant only, to include:
Preparing the application, arranging for the Executors/Personal Representatives to sign the same and submitting to the Probate Registry. Paying the court fee on your behalf. Receiving the Grant and providing you with the sealed copies.
Net Fee: £1,140
Estimated timescale: 8 weeks. Could be longer if an unusual application and subject to Probate Registry waiting periods
Obtaining the Grant and reporting to HMRC (no tax payable on the estate), to include:
Preparing the Inland Revenue account, submitting the same to HMRC, receiving the code to return with the application to the Probate Registry. Paying the court fee on your behalf. Receiving the Grant and providing you with the sealed copies.
Net Fee: £2,100
Estimated timescale: 16 weeks. Subject to Probate Registry waiting periods.
Dealing with the whole of the administration of the estate, to include:
Obtaining details of the assets and liabilities of the estate. Considering the provisions of the will/distribution of estate on intestacy. Preparing the Inland Revenue account, if appropriate, and submitting the same to HMRC, receiving the code to return with the application to the Probate Registry. Paying the court fee on your behalf. Receiving the Grant. Collecting in the assets of the estate and paying all outstanding liabilities, when in funds. Dealing with the income tax affairs to date of death and for the period of administration together with any reporting of Capital Gains on sale of property/shares. Collating estate accounts and providing to the Executors for approval. Doing all that is necessary to distribute the estate to the beneficiaries, including interim distributions during the period of administration.
Our charges are usually charged at a rate of up to 2% of the gross value of estate, plus VAT as detailed above considering the assets of the estate and distribution. The cost will depend on a number of factors and will be either charged at a percentage of the gross estate or a fixed fee, considering the number of hours it will take to deal with the administration.
The above VAT rates will apply together with disbursements, where a Grant is obtained. How to value an estate for Inheritance Tax and report its value: Estimate the estate’s value – GOV.UK.
Estimated timescale: 16 weeks to get to the point of receiving the Grant, as above and subject to Probate Registry waiting periods. The time taken to administer the whole of the estate will then be dependent on the nature of the assets and distribution. Hopefully, this should be achieved within 6 months beyond the receipt of the Grant.

Disbursements:
The Probate Court Fee payable to the Probate Registry is: £300 plus £16 per copy of the Grant obtained.
